Never mind if his sparse and ambient music for piano and orchestra is as idiosyncratic as his personal life (he once declared his culinary passion for only white things): his minimalist compositions, dismissed as strange and farcical during his time, laid the groundwork for twentieth century jazz and new age pioneers.
