The CompanY
The CompanY

I first saw the group performing the now-classic “Everlasting Love” at a noontime television show in Manila in 1991. I had always loved the music of vocal bands: in high school in the late 1970s and early 1980s, I would listen to cassette recordings of The New Minstrels and Music and Magic, Manila's legendary theater bands known for their stylish stage presence, funky grooves, and well harmonized vocals. Sadly, their recording era ended before the 1980s even took off, and divas with hair as big as their voices took over the rest of this shoulder-padded decade.

And then came that singular performance by The CompanY on television. The sweetness of their sound impressed me. I rushed to acquire their debut album 'Yon Na; the  following morning, Mount Pinatubo greeted me with the volcanic ash fall of its now-infamous, cataclysmic eruption. The melodies and harmonies of The CompanY kept me from the gloom of those subsequent days. . . and they have kept me riveted since then.
