“New technology comes along and different things come along that inspire you, but at the same time you just have to be honest and do what you do the best, and not to try and fit in with anything.”

—Corinne Drewery, band founder

Swing Out Sister
Swing Out Sister

THE SOUND of their earliest recordings—cinematic yet commercial—were so unlike like those of other British bands at the time, and no one knew how to classify them. Nevertheless, everyone enjoyed their fresh, sixties retro music—the same chic sound that continues to thrill legions of fans of Corinne Drewery and Andy Connell. Think Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, and Dusty Springfield with bigger orchestral drama and swingier dance hooks. It is not about sticking to the familiar: it is all about innovating the best of tradition. And, for the charmed lovers of jazzy traditions, it is better to surrender.
